Yidi Art Gallery proudly presents the solo exhibition of Chinese contemporary artist Cheng Zhe titled “Tomorrow’s Promises,” showcasing his latest body of work from 1 March – April 4, 2024. The exhibition opening reception will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, 1 March, 2024. In addition, the meet-and-greet session with Cheng Zhe will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, 22 March, 2024.

The exhibition takes you on a journey where Cheng Zhe heartfeltly conveys his meticulous love for his daughter by revealing his concerns over the current global environment and its profound influence on the next generation through his paintings. Meanwhile, the artist steadfastly demonstrates his faith and hope towards a brighter future, whilst inviting the viewer to be grateful for our blessings in life and embrace the spirit of carpe diem.

Cheng Zhe’s oeuvre is constantly evolving both stylistically and contextually. The artist subverts his own artistic boundaries by incorporating the impasto technique and tapes to create textured visual effect in his work. Furthermore, he shrewdly utilizes his signature “little girl” character — an amiable and approachable visual presentation — to address these worldwide concerns intimately, gently guiding the viewer to survey and contemplate the issues surrounding us.

In a world permeated with overflowing information distributed from media of all sorts, his recent body of work is drastically inspired by the current issues. The featured artworks delve into various topics, encompassing the personal growth of the artist’s daughter and environmental sustainability. Through his latest body of work, he aims to arouse resonance from the public and to work cohesively towards a sustainable world brimmed with joy for future generations. Each piece as such reflects the artist's unmeasurable father’s love and promises for his daughter. “Tomorrow’s Promises” also serves as an optimistic outlook towards what tomorrow may bring, inviting the viewer to hold onto hope and dreams, amidst the gloom and the ongoing global challenges.

Cheng Zhe’s work meanwhile encourages the viewer to appreciate the abundance surrounding us and to be thankful for what we have in life in the present, whilst handling all circumstances in life with a calm demeanour. In reality, “Tomorrow is promised to no one” and life is always filled with possibilities and uncertaintyWhat if tomorrow never comes? Every instant in life holds significance, and hence it urges us to cherish each moment in life and always live with love, hope and faith.
